Which Online Will Maker is the Oldest?

For our will-maker comparison, we selected the eighteen most popular companies that offer online last will and testament services. The vast majority of them were created in the XXI century, but there are a couple of companies that started their online business in the last century. Nolo by Quicken, for example, claim that they have been on the market since 1971, but they moved their business online much later. US Legal Forms are in business since 1997, and DoYourOwnWill since 1999. The rest of the companies of our database were created after 2000, and seven of them went online sometime between 2015 and 2018. Gentreo is the youngest company in our database, established in 2018.

Best Rated Online Will Maker

To compare will makers in our database and create our own rating for each of them, we collected their ratings in Google and on Better Business Bureau website when they were available. Interestingly, all online will makers that were registered with BBB had a rating of A+, while Google ratings ranged from 3.9 to 5 stars. Our 5-star rated companies are US Legal Wills (and its sister site Expat Legal Wills) and Trust&Will.

We created our own rating based on multiple categories, including the company’s credibility and reputation, services, pricing software, and unique functions. Currently, the best-rated companies on our website are eForms, US Legal Wills, and Trust&Will.

Online Will Maker Comparison

Will Software Comparison

Our will maker software will maker software comparison showed that online will makers use three types of software: downloadable software, cloud-based software, and mobile apps. There is only one company, Nolo, in our database that uses downloadable software. As one of the oldest companies on the market, they developed their software a long time ago when downloadable software was a major trend, and they decided to keep it since it works perfectly, and many customers like it. They have a cloud-based version for Last Will and Testament templates as well.

All the companies that we analyze and compared have cloud-based software, but only three of them, Shariawiz, Rocket Lawyer, and Fabric, also offer mobile apps. As more and more customers go mobile for their everyday business, mobile apps rapidly gain popularity. We believe that many online will makers will have mobile software soon.

Documents You Can Create With Online Will Makers

Every single online will maker was selected for our database because they offer templates for last will and testament. However, many of them offer templates for other personal and business documents. For example, all the companies, except Fabric, also allow creating a financial power of attorney. Additionally, you can create a living will, a will codicil, a living trust, and a medical power of attorney. Rocket Lawyer, Nolo, US Legal Forms, and eForms offer all of these services.

In the majority of the companies, you can purchase each document separately. However, if you need several documents, you can buy a package. Trust&Will, Legal Zoom, Nolo, and Willing offer package deals. For those who need to create a legal document on a regular basis, seven companies offer a monthly or an annual subscription. You can always create your documents yourself, but if you need any attorney support, it is available at Nolo, Trust&Will, US Legal Wills, LegalZoom, and Rocket Lawyer.

Compare Will Maker Prices and Promotions

Once creating a will was a pretty expensive process. Now you can create a will online for free at DoYourOwnWill, FreeWill, Tomorrow.me, or Fabric. These companies make money selling life insurance or other types of insurance, and use will-making templates as a means to attract more customers. Will prices at the rest of the companies range from $39.95 for a single document to $89.95 for an annual subscription.

Not every online will maker offers a promotion. Usually, there is a 7-day free trial for a subscription, a deep discount for your partner or spouse, or a discount if you purchase an annual subscription in one piece vs monthly payments. Periodically, there are holiday deals or special coupons available to the new customers. These discounts are important to consider when you compare will makers.

Cost is one of the most important considerations to take into account when selecting an online will making service but visiting different websites and comparing the prices of their services can be incredibly exhausting and time-consuming. This is why we created this will price comparison tool to help you.

The tool above allows you to switch between two modes: Subscription and One-Time Fee. The Subscription mode allows you to compare the cost of subscription plans offered by different companies and the estate planning documents included in them. On the other hand, the One-Time Fee mode shows the cost of individual documents from different providers. You can also get information about promos and offers all in one place.

Online Will Maker Guarantees

A lot of people are wary of buying services online, especially when it comes to important legal documents. After all, you never know if the service you’re paying for will live up to your expectations. This is why many online will makers provide a money-back guarantee. Most of these companies give their customers 30 to 60 days to request a refund. The list of companies that offer this guarantee includes NOLO, LawDepot, US Legal Wills, Rocket Lawyer, Shariawiz, Trust & Will, LegalZoom, US Legal Forms, Total Legal, Willing, and FormSwift. On the other hand, eForms, Gentreo, MyWassiyah, DoYourOwnWill, FreeWill, Tomorrow.me, and Fabric do not offer this service.

Document Update Periods Offered by Different Online Will Makers

If you create a will or another estate planning document online, you may be able to make changes to that document free of charge for a certain period of time, depending on the will making service you choose. Some companies such as NOLO, US Legal Wills, Trust & Will, and Gentreo allow you to make unlimited updates to your documents for one year. MyWassiyah, DoYourOwnWill, FreeWill, Tomorrow.me, and Fabric offer unlimited document updates. And services like Rocket Lawyer, LawDepot, US Legal Forms, and FormSwift allow free updates as long as your subscription remains active.
